Apple is expected to make a big splash today at it WorldWide Developer’s Conference, but there are a few things that no one will care about.
Everyone is clearly excited about the new lineup of MacBooks and the new Mac Pro. Some fanboys are even holding out for an iPhone 5 announcement (not going to happen), but here are three things that you won’t be waiting in line for:
- USB SuperDrive: To make those MacBook Pros thin, Apple needed to ditch its CD-Rom drive. Finally! The CD is becoming the new record player. It’s outdated. Everything is done in the cloud now — or at the very least on a USB thumb drive. If you really need a disc drive, then by all means, go get one. But make sure to let me know why in the hell you really need one.
- New MagSafes: Whoa! Watch out. Because the MacBook Pros are undergoing some cosmetic surgery to slim down a few pounds, they’ll likely need a new MagSafe power connector. MagSafe is the magnetic power cord that comes undone if someone walks on your cord at the office. I know you’re super-excited about this one.
- Thunderbolt-to-Ethernet adapter: My question on this one — who is still connecting to the Internet via ethernet? Even my old-timey college alma mater has wireless in the dorms now. Since Apple is ditching Ethernet cords for its laptops, you’ll still be able to connect via Thunderbolt. But you’ll need this adaptor.
And as an added bonus — the (slightly cooler) AirPort Express is also expected to receive an update. That one was cool enough to get a dedicated post.
I don’t know about you, but I’m exhausted with months and months of rumors. Today is a big day! And I can’t wait to hear what is announced.
